The Ponte Ristorante

OPENED 1233 DAYS AGO

The Ponte in L.A. is a new restaurant that serves contemporary Italian cuisine in a casually elegant setting.

Restaurateur Stephane Bombet and chef Scott Conant are the team behind this opening; they enlisted the help of Parisian designer Marc Ange to bring their vision for the Ponte to life.

The Spot:

The Ponte can be found on Beverly Boulevard, putting it among Central L.A.’s top new restaurants. It’s minutes away from the recently opened Fleishik’s Sandwiches and not far from Terra Cotta.

The restaurant has a patio space, a bar and lounge area, and a dreamy, sophisticated ambiance. The warm gold lighting and white tablecloths somehow bring to mind idealized visions of both Italy and California at once.

The Food:

The menu consists of upscale but old-fashioned Italian comfort food. For antipasti, you’ll find options like wood roasted prawns and veal & pork meatballs. There’s a selection of pasta and pizza, and other mains include steak and slow-roasted trout. Salads, charcuterie and veggie-based plates are available, too. Overall, it’s a well-rounded menu – unified, but with a few surprises here and there.

The Drinks:

The wine list alone is two or three times the length of the dinner menu. Wines are available by the glass or bottle. The cocktail list is more concise, and it’s split into ‘classic’ and ‘modern’ varieties.

Among the classics, you’ll find the Ponte‘s take on the martini and the White Negroni. The modern options are equally refined, but a bit more daring. The Toscano Sour, for example, contains scotch, Lorenzo Inga Amaro, lemon juice, honey and toasted pecan bitters. The Lucano Correcto is a creamy, coffee-and-chocolate flavored concoction, sort of like a very grown-up dessert.

The Damage:

For dinner, most mains are between $20 and $30. Glasses of wine start at $9, while cocktails range from $13-15.

In a Nutshell:

The Ponte is snazzy but not extravagant; it walks the line between polished and relaxed. If you’re seeking quality Italian food with a little something for everyone, this spot’s hard to beat.
