Spoke Bicycle Cafe

OPENED 477 DAYS AGO

Spoke Bicycle Cafe has expanded and reopened as an all-day restaurant.

While it closes at 6pm for now, it’ll be open for later evening hours in the near future.

The Spot:

What started as a modest café and bike repair shop has grown into a full-scale restaurant, a popular neighborhood hangout, and one of L.A.’s best places to eat and drink. You’ll find it in Frogtown on the L.A. River bike path. It’s a counter-service operation with mostly outdoor seating on the large patio. Parking is limited, their site warns – you’re better off arriving by bike or on foot. And, yes, you can still get your bike fixed there.

The Food:

Spoke Bicycle Cafe serves sweet and savory breakfast dishes, freshly baked bagels, sandwiches, salads and bowls. A long-time supporter of not only biking, but all-around healthier lifestyles, it’s not surprising to see options like the hemp-date granola, tofu scramble, and veggie burger on the menu.

Although it’s vegan- and vegetarian-friendly, the menu is not strictly plants-based. For one, the carnivore’s version of the Spoke burger contains dry-aged ribeye, bacon and cheddar; you’ll also notice a chicken bacon sandwich. But many of the most intriguing options are meat-free, like the Farro cauliflower bowl with roasted chickpeas, olives, parsley, mint and feta; the bagel sandwich with cream cheese or hummus, tomato, avocado and microgreens; and the smashed blackberry and goat cheese on toasted sourdough.

The Drinks:

All their beers are local: you’ll find a pilsner from L.A., a lager from Pasadena, IPA from Gardena and Inglewood, and more. Most of their wines are locally sourced, too, and they do a house pinot noir. Mimosas with fresh orange or watermelon juice are available, as well as a cider-kombucha spritzer. If you’d prefer an alcohol-free option, go for one of their tempting smoothies, like the green coconut banana; you can amp them up with add-ins like espresso or hemp protein.

The Damage:

Most dishes range from $6-15, while beer and wine cost $7-12.

In a Nutshell:

Spoke Bicycle Cafe‘s humble beginnings are long gone. While it’s still a bike repair & rental shop, it’s also evolved into a full restaurant, a venue for art and music events, and a community-oriented hangout for bikers and pedestrians. We love a small business success story and can’t wait to see where Spoke goes in the future.

L.A.’s best new restaurants and bars also include Giulia and Tower 12.
